Hunger and Despair in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Where to Find Food for Ptacek

All ways to get food in a besieged fortress.

Farewell to those killed during the siege of Sukhdol.

В Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 The story mission Hunger and Despair takes place on the twenty-fifth day of the siege of Sukhdol. There are almost no provisions left in the fortress, and the entire garrison is starving. Try to get food for yourself and Mr. Ptachek and learn from Musa a rather unusual way to satisfy hunger under siege.

Considering that there is no food left in the fortress, there are only a few non-obvious ways to slightly satisfy your hunger. In the guide, we will tell you how to eat yourself and where to find food for Ptachek in the quest Hunger and Despair KCD 2.

How to start the Hunger and Despair quest in KCD 2

After Dry Devil's foray beyond the walls in the quest "Under siege" Two weeks have passed. Henry and Ptacek are sitting in the outer courtyard of the fortress and trying unsuccessfully to think of something to satisfy their hunger. It would seem that there is nothing left in the fortress, but Henry still decides to try to find some food for his friend.

Walkthrough of the quest Hunger and Despair in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Try to find something to fill your stomach with in the castle. Regardless of whether you manage to achieve this goal or not, you will have to repel a surprise attack by the Praguers, which will end with the loss of the outer courtyard. Having retreated inside the castle and having gathered a council of war, Zizka decides to send a couple of men outside the walls to deliver a message to Margrave Jobst.

Ask Janos for food

First of all, you should visit Janos, the head of the food distribution. The Hungarian can be found in his usual place, next to the kitchen in the south of the fortress. After talking to the comrade, you will find out that he can’t give anything even to his friends.

The indignant Dry Devil demands that Barbos be given to be eaten.

After a short dialogue with Janos, Henry will be called out by the indignant Dry Devil, who was sitting nearby and heard the request. He does not like that the hero is trying to get a ration out of turn, and besides, Henry has Barbos, who also needs to be fed.

What to answer Dry Devil.

Once Ginek finishes his monologue, you can answer him via quick dialogue ("Q"), choosing one of two options:

  • "Calm down" - try to negotiate with the Dry Devil and calm him down.
  • "Shit yourself!" - will provoke a fight with Ginek. If you win, protect Barbos.

Options for persuading the Dry Devil.

After choosing the first option, you will be able to talk to Dry Devil:

  • "I will not give Barbos to be eaten" - will lead to a fight with Ginek.
  • "Barbos is useful" (persuasion) - a difficult skill check. Use if Henry has a relevant attribute above 20.
  • "You won't lay a finger on my dog!" (intimidation) - a difficult check. It will work if the hero's formidability rating is higher than 20.
  • "Okay. We'll eat Barbos." - if you agree, you will lose the dog, and in return you will receive two servings of "best friend soup".

If you lose the fight with Dry Devil, you will wake up in the infirmary with Katerina. Ask the girl: "What happened to Barbos?" She will tell you that the dog bit Hynek and ran away. While Henry was unconscious, Janos gave Katerina a ration, which she is ready to donate to the wounded hero. During the dialogue, you will receive bread. If you try to refuse by selecting the phrase "I can not", you will get additional reputation with Katerina, but the food will still remain in your inventory.

Try to tame Boudica

In search of food, you can contact the head groom. You will find him in the stable of the inner courtyard, he is marked on the map as a character with a quest.

Conversation with the chief groom of Sukhdol.

Asking him: "Do you have anything to eat?", you will learn that he has hidden some booze. You can try to buy the alcohol, but the groom will refuse, citing the fact that in the conditions of the siege, pennies are not needed.

Taking on the task of walking Boudica.

Ask: "How are the horses doing?". The groom will complain that one of the mares does not allow him to approach her, which is why he cannot take her for a walk. The horse obeyed only its late owner. Offer to help the groom: "I think I can help".

Mount the chestnut horse in the corner stall of the stable and lead it out into the courtyard. The quest requires you to ride Boudica around the outer courtyard.

Make a circle around the outer walls of the fortress, inside the quest area highlighted in yellow. The quest objective will be completed soon.

Receiving moonshine from the head groom.

To complete the task, you need to send Boudica to the stables, then return and talk to the groom. As a reward, you will receive one bottle moonshine.

Borrow shoes from Mrs. Frenzel's chest

Another option is to take part in a conversation with Musa, Boguta, Shmuel and Kubenka who have gathered in the courtyard. In a dialogue with friends, you can choose any answers, all of them will lead to Musa hearing a story about how they cooked soup from boots. Friends will remember that the centurion's wife had some nice leather shoes.

Mrs. Frenzel's Lambskin Shoes are kept in a chest in the centurion's quarters, locked with a complex lock. There are two ways to obtain them:

  • Talk to Gerta and convince her to give you the shoes. In this case, you need to successfully pass one of the skill checks. The girl can be found on the 2nd floor of the main tower of the fortress. If successful, you will receive the key to the Frenzel chest.
  • Break open the chest and steal the shoes. To do this, go up to the 3rd floor and enter the room guarded by the guard.

Take the shoes to Musa and learn how to make broth

After receiving Gerta's shoes, find Musa in the courtyard. After talking to his friends, he will go to help Katerina in the infirmary or sit in the room with the alchemy table.

Obtaining broth from a shoe.

Tell Musa: "I got those shoes." After you give the shoes to Mrs. Frenzel, you will receive shoe broth, two servings.

Bring Ptachek some food

How to give Ptachek food.

There are several options to complete this task:

  • If you managed to get food or drink in the event with Dry Devil or the head groom, take it to Ptachek. To do this, in the dialogue with him, select: "I brought you some food.".
  • After Janos' refusal, you can immediately return to Jan and say: "I couldn't find you any food."This will also complete the quest stage and advance the quest further.
  • You can search the rooms in the castle and find wine in locked chests. To do this, enter the main tower and go up to the 3rd floor. Opposite Henry's chambers is the room where Otto of Bergov was previously kept. Break the chest with a complex lock by the bed and you will find 3 bottles of wine. Another 3 bottles can be obtained from one of the locked chests on the floor above.

If you bring moonshine or wine to Ptachek, you will have to fight in a state of alcohol intoxication later. With a low drunkenness skill, this can negatively affect combat performance. The degree of intoxication can vary depending on the amount of alcohol in the inventory, since friends will drink everything. Henry will also be drunk if you give Jan food, but leave alcohol in the inventory.

If you give Ptachek a portion best friend soup or shoe broth, you will lose the opportunity to get the achievement "Fasting". Both of these dishes are considered meat and are recorded in the statistics.

Drive enemies away from the walls

Choosing which prayer to read to Boguta.

After talking to Ptachek, regardless of whether he was brought food or not, a cutscene will start. When Boguta says a prayer, choose either option, both will be successful.

The memorial service will be interrupted by a sudden attack by the Praguers. Follow everyone else up the north-eastern wall. On the way, take the vulge from the weapon rack to have something to knock down the ladders with.

Battle with the Praguers.

The task requires throwing 4 ladders away from the walls, and those that are knocked down by allies will also count. If you wish, you can concentrate on fighting enemies and wait until the target changes.

Knocking down a ladder from the fortress wall.

To speed up the process, go to any of the ladders leaning against the wall and hold "E" while pushing it away.

Destroy the enemies in the tower and on the wall

After the cutscene, it turns out that the Praguers have occupied one of the castle towers. Ptacek covers Henry while he tries to break in. To break down the door to the tower, approach it and press "E". Once the passage is open, prepare to fight several opponents.

Opening the entrance to the tower for allies.

Deal with the enemies on each floor. Once you eliminate those below, you will be able to open the entrance to the tower for our allies.

Exit through the door on the second floor to knock down the ladders on the back wall that the Praguers used to get into the castle.

Zizka announces who will deliver the message.

After this, the enemies will retreat. Zizka will order the bridge to the inner courtyard to be raised, as the outer one has already been captured by the Praguers. Once locked inside the castle, take part in a military council. During the process, a decision will be made to send people outside the walls to deliver a message to Jost. Shmuel will volunteer. To gain reputation, choose in this dialogue: "I won't let you go alone"Thus it will be decided to send Shmuel and Indřich beyond the walls.

Say goodbye to Katerina

Zizka after the meeting.

After the meeting, Zizka will call Indro for a talk. Talk to him and you will learn about Katerina's difficult fate and how she lost her loved ones.

Find Katerina crying by the fire in the infirmary. After talking to her, you will learn how much she worries about Henry.

Choosing a phrase to get a bed scene with Katerina.

If you managed to successfully develop affair with Katerina, this dialogue opens access to the final bed scene. To initiate this event, you need to select the phrase with a heart in the dialogue: "I'll bring help, and everything will be fine.". It will be available only if you have managed to gain enough reputation throughout the game and have not missed key events.

The scene with Katerina itself will be a little later, when Henry goes to the wall to wait for the sortie.

Conversation with Katerina outside the novel.

If you haven't managed to gather enough reputation for a romance, only the phrase will be available in the dialogue "I know about your family".

To heal after the previous battle, talk to Katerina again.

Say goodbye to Ptacek

Mr. Ptacek is sitting in his chambers on the second floor of the fortress. Go to him to say goodbye.

Farewell to Ptacek.

If you ignored the relationship branch, just talk to the man, choosing any phrases in the dialogue.

Go wait on the wall

The way to the wall.

Before completing the quest, all that remains is to finish all the necessary things, and then go wait on the wall. In your free time, you can heal, wash yourself and repair your equipment. Also take everything you need from the chest in your room, since it will not be available in the next quest.

Waiting area on the southwest wall.

Once you're ready, head to the southwest wall where you and Jan covered Sukhoi Demon in the previous quest. Find a spot on the wall where a skin is laid out and shields are leaning against it. Interact with it by holding "E", thereby starting a cutscene.

If the romance with Katerina was successful, a bed scene will be triggered at this point. Otherwise, Henry will simply wait for Shmuel and Boguta, who will help the brothers get down behind the wall.
