Walkthrough of the quest Payback in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
In search of Shmuel and the horses, Henry sneaks into the Prague siege camp. After finding your brother, meet the traitor Waclain Brabant and decide his fate. During the conversation, the Frenchman will tell you about the location of the wounded Markvart von Aulitz - the man Henry wants to take revenge on with all his heart. Before looking for horses to leave Suchdol, decide whether to visit the dying enemy.
Find out where Shmuel is
Shmuel is located in one of the barns inside the camp. To get inside and find him, you will need to be resourceful or use advanced stealth skills.
Finding Shmuel is not a mandatory goal of the quest. This, like all subsequent tasks, can be skipped by stealing the horse right away. However, this method of passing will lead to Shmuel's death, skipping one of the most important cutscenes of the game, and also block the possibility of getting the best ending and the achievement "Face to Face".
You can sneak into the Prague camp, avoiding enemies and neutralizing those who interfere. There are several ways to sneak in and safe routes inside the village. However, this method is extremely difficult and involves a high risk of raising the whole camp on its ears.
A much more efficient way to get inside is to pretend to be one of the Prague soldiers and enter through the main gate. To do this, you need to follow a few simple steps:
- Find out the password to log in.
- Find Prague clothing.
- Go through the main entrance.
Behind the password From the castle walls, head straight towards the camp. The location is on the northern edge of the village of Sukhdol, easily identified from afar by the light from the torches. As you approach, you will see a couple of soldiers. You can hold down "L Alt" to focus your gaze on them and see the subtitles above their heads better. At the end of the dialogue, one of them will say the password.
Remember the word you need, as it changes randomly each time.
Clothes of Prague residents lies in a chest in the east of the village. The path to it is relatively safe, but you still shouldn't run and make noise. Find the red cart at the indicated location near a small shed, under which there is an unlocked chest with Prague capes.
You can take any. Don't forget to equip it through the inventory. You won't have to hide anymore, so you can also put on your best armor, regardless of its visibility and noise indicators.
Main entrance The camp is located in the south of the village of Suchdol. Having put on the Prague colors, you can freely approach it without fear of being exposed by the soldiers. Before entering, Henry will call out to a warrior. You can approach him and talk to him or use the quick answer via "Q": "What do you want?"If you choose the second answer, "Leave me alone!", the guard will raise the alarm.
The warrior will start the dialogue by asking for a password. Choose the overheard option from those offered. If you do not recognize the code word, there is a high probability of making a mistake, since there are quite a few variations.
Once you give the correct password, the guard will recognize Henry as one of the attackers of Malesh. You can choose any of the answers, after which you will need to pass a skill check or pay him a very large sum for the passage:
- "What are you doing here?" (persuasion) - medium difficulty, depends on eloquence. More likely to work if in the quest "Dancing with the Devil" prevented the burning of the village.
- "I have no time to chat here." (intimidation) - a complex option, depending on the indicator of the hero's menacing appearance.
- "If you let me through, I'll pay you. (10)" - bribery with a very large sum.
If you fail the skill checks, the guard will raise the alarm. If you are not confident in eloquence, focus on intimidation. A good set of armor and a decent weapon will do the trick. Henry will look quite intimidating to the interlocutor even with a fairly low intimidation rating (17).
In the captured Sukhdol there is one of the demonic dice — Qi. Go to the northwest courtyard and enter the barn that is closed on one side. Inside there is a board with cubes laid out in the shape of a heart. You can only take Qi dice и An unusual dice.
Once you've dealt with the guard, enter the camp. Walk forward a bit and you'll find traces of blood that lead to a half-open gate. Go to the barn ahead, and when you get closer, you'll hear Brabant's voice talking to Shmuel.
The guard in this courtyard constantly goes to drink from a barrel of wine. Thanks to this, he can be incapacitated in advance by pouring poison into it.
The barn gate is locked and cannot be interacted with. To get inside, go around the building to the left and find a ladder. Climb it and you'll get under the roof. Jump off it and get ready for a fight.
Should Wacline Brabant be killed?
Vaclain Brabant is not a very difficult opponent. He is good with a sword, but he does not wear armor. Deal a few blows, after which the Frenchman will surrender and beg for mercy.
Vaclain will offer information in exchange for his life. Ask him important questions about Markvart's location, Brabant will gladly answer them:
- "Is von Aulitz still here?"
- "Where is he?"
Before you reveal the information, the Frenchman will ask you to promise to stay alive. Choose any of the options, they will not affect the final decision.
Brabant will tell you that von Aulitz is hiding in the village tavern, describing it as a large house on the square. He will also tell you that you can get in through the back door through the courtyard. One of the guards should have the key.
Afterwards you will be offered a choice:
- Let Brabant go - show mercy and fulfill one of the conditions to receive good ending. Keep in mind that although this choice leads to the best ending, it will significantly complicate the further passage of the quest, as Brabant will immediately raise the alarm.
- Kill Brabant - this option crosses out the possibility of getting a good ending, but at the same time helps to complete the quest without unnecessary noise and complexity.
If you let Brabant go, you can kill him as soon as he starts raising the alarm. This action will not affect the ending.
After talking to Brabant, von Aulitz's location was marked on the map. But before you go looking for him, it's worth untying your captive comrade and talking to Shmuel. The choices in the dialogue with him don't matter, you can come back later and pick up your brother.
Find von Aulitz in the camp
The path to Markvart will be the same regardless of whether the alarm has been raised in the camp. Even if you can move freely around the village, the tavern area is still guarded, and to get inside, you need to sneak through the backyard.
If the alarm has already been raised, immediately change into the most unremarkable clothes you have. Leave the barn and move towards the gate.
Wait until all patrols have passed and the area is relatively quiet, then sneak up to the tents. Throw rocks as a distraction if necessary (press "G").
The passage you need is inside a wide tent. Once you've sneaked in, distract the guard on duty at the entrance to the vegetable gardens by throwing a stone and then proceed further.
Move along the tents to the east, if necessary, you can hide in them. The guards you meet along the way are easy to distract.
Go through the inconspicuous passage in the stone fence and you will find yourself in the garden behind the tavern. Further on there will be a guarded area, even if the alarm has not been raised, so be prepared to act stealthily. Sneak to the red cart and climb the ladder behind it.
Once you find yourself under the roof of the barn, to avoid making noise, go down the stairs inside and quietly exit into the courtyard of the tavern.
Walk around the tent and you will see a Praguer sitting or standing next to it. If there is no soldier, wait a bit, he should appear soon.
To obtain Aulitz house key, steal it from the guard's pocket. If you want, you can kill the enemy unnoticed, then you won't have to steal. Wait for a convenient moment and sneak to the door of the tavern.
Having a key in your inventory means you don't have to pick the very complicated lock on the door. As soon as you enter the room of the Prague army general, a cutscene will start and you will receive achievement "Face to Face".
In the dialogue with von Aulitz you will be able to choose one of two options:
- "Are you scared?" - launches the opportunity to ask the main enemy many questions, answering which he will reveal himself as a person.
- "Enough chatter!" - skips most of the dialogue, moving it to the moment of the main choice.
Eventually, the dying Markvart will ask Henry to help him get back on his feet so he can face his death with dignity. There are three options for what to do with von Aulitz:
- Ensure von Aulitz dies with dignity. - Henry will raise the enemy and let him die with dignity.
- Kill von Aulitz like a dog. - having succumbed to hatred, the hero will not show mercy and will vilely stab the defenseless enemy.
- Leave von Aulitz alive. — the best option that will leave Markvart's death on the conscience of Dry Devil and will not block access to good ending.
Killing Markvart von Aulitz out of revenge with your own hands will be considered a bad deed and will block access to the best ending of the game.
Search the Prague Hetman's room. There are 3 chests, 2 of which are locked with a very complex lock. Inside are expensive armor sets, precious jewelry and letter from Sigismund. Can be found outside of chests decree и Sword of Markwart von Aulitz.
Find a horse and ride for help
The main task now is to steal the horse. The stables are located behind the village, there is a very convenient passage to them from the neighboring yard with the barn where Shmuel was left. Return for your brother to take him with you. It will be very difficult to carry Shmuel out of the camp if the alarm was raised. You can leave him in Sukhdol, but in this case he will be hanged by the Praguers later. This decision will not affect the ending.
If the camp is on alert and the camouflage fails, you'll likely have to fight a whole squad of Praguers to get Shmuel out. In the open, it's nearly impossible, but if you lure them to the half-open gate leading into the courtyard, you'll have a huge advantage.
Return to Shmuel and take him to "F". Exit with him through the gate to the main square of the village and immediately turn north, into the neighboring yard.
If the alarm has not been raised, when you meet a guard, use quick dialogue by holding down "Q" and when asked if the spy is dead, answer: "Of course!".
Go deeper into the yard and look around. Behind the tent where the warrior is sitting, there is an inconspicuous passage through the bushes. Through them you will get to the path between the yards. Move along it to the southwest and soon you will reach the turn to the stable.
The building you need is slightly to the right. You can recognize it by the light of the torches burning inside. Go to the nearest horse. To leave with Shmuel, you need to press "E". In this case, the friend must be inside the stable or on Indro's shoulder. If you were unable to pull out your brother, you will have to go away aloneTo do this, hold down the interaction button.
