Attack power in Genshin Impact: who needs it, what it affects and how to increase it

Attack power in Genshin Impact

attack power in Genshin impact - a key characteristic showing the amount of damage inflicted by normal blows and some abilities of characters (or enemies). When calculating damage, it is the main attribute that is used almost everywhere, including formulas for elemental reactions. All this determines its importance and relevance throughout the game - from the very beginning ranks to the late stage.

Having understood the principles of this stat, you can significantly increase the DPS of both an individual hero and the entire squad. In this guide, we will analyze in detail how attack power works, what it affects and how to increase its value using weapons, artifacts and other sources.

What gives attack power

Attack Power (abbreviated as ATK) allows you to inflict increased damage when using normal, charged or falling attacks, abilities, as well as when creating some reactions. In fact, the more attack, the stronger the character (or opponent) becomes. Despite base value when calculating damage, this stat includes many nuances and various mechanics. It is also important to consider that for some heroes it may be a priority, but for others it may not. It depends not only on the character himself, but also on his build.

You can find out the current value of attack power in the character menu.

What is attack power in Genshin Impact

Attack power affects the overall damage of the character

Attack power is an attribute that directly or indirectly (depending on talent scales) affects base damage, as well as some spontaneous reactions и elemental damage. In short, attack is a measure of how much damage a character can deal in total. Damage to opponents can vary from the value of their of protection or active shields.

How attack power works

Aeola's talent stats

Initially, all combat talents depend on ATK. If the damage scales from HP or defense, this is indicated in the description of the characteristics. General attack power formula as follows:

Attack Power Formula

  • Base attack power: The sum of the character's base attack and the weapon's base attack (displayed in white in the stats menu).

Base attack power

  • ATK% (percentage bonus): the sum of the attack power% bonuses received from all sources, including buffs from artifacts, weapon passives, talents, character ascension, etc.
  • ATK (flat bonus): this is a flat attack value obtained from artifacts, skills, food.

If you look at the formula, the bonus, which is charged as a percentage, is multiplied by the basic attack. While the numerical bonus (flat attack) only adds up to the final value. Thus, the higher the main characteristics of the weapon, the more additional increase in attack the hero will receive.

It is also worth noting that the attack power from artifacts only affects character's base damage. For example, when a hero with 100 base ATK gets a 50% ATK boost, they end up with only 150 ATK. If you add another 50%, then the total will be 200. In this case, the formula looks like this: 100*(1 + 0.5 + 0.5) = 200.

Additional attack from artifacts

As a rule, percentage bonuses increase the attack value in 2 times, as opposed to flat ones. Therefore, when selecting artifacts, it is recommended to give preference to those that have exactly ATK%.

Now let's look at the principle of the attack force on a specific example. Let's say at Xiangling Level 90 with fully upgraded spear "Catch", set "Gladiator’s Finale" + 18%, Pyro Resonance 25%, as well as additional and main characteristics in artifacts, ATK is calculated using the following formula:

ATK = [(225 + 510) * (1 + 0,798 + 0,25)] + 27 = 735 * 2,4 + 27 = 1791.

Who needs attack power in Genshin Impact

Shen He, Jinn and Qiqi

Almost all characters require some amount of attack power. Despite certain exceptions (Hu Tao, Ye Lan, Noelle (up to C6), Itto, Nile), this attribute is needed by any primary or secondary damage dealer, as well as some supports whose support skills depend on ATK. The most dependent on this indicator are:

  • Shen He. The strength of her buffs is completely based on the maximum value of the attack power, so she is considered one of the most demanding characters for this characteristic.
  • Jean. The heroine's elemental healing explosion scales with attack power, which means she also needs a high attribute score. In addition, she needs an attack to deal damage.
  • Qi qi. The situation is similar to Genie - the amount of HP restored during the heal depends on the ATK.

Who needs attack power in Genshin Impact

Separately, we single out damage dealers whose gameplay is not directly based on attack power (and does not require its maximization for the sake of other stats), but without this attribute, they significantly sag in damage:

How to increase attack power in Genshin Impact

There are many ways to increase the value of attack power: from leveling up characters to bonuses for equipment, food, and other heroes.

Artifacts for attack power

Artifacts containing an attack power attribute come in two variations:

  • in the form of stats: main (clock, goblet, crown, feather) and additional (drop out randomly).

If we talk about the main stats, in the goblet, clock and crown, the attack is presented as a percentage and falls out randomly, in the pen - only attack in a flat value (in the form of a number). Additional stats are completely random. In this case, ATK may be in percentage, in the form of a number, or may be completely absent.

  • In a passive effect: when used in two pieces or as a complete set under certain conditions.
